Amendment of Registration agreement by HKDNR
HK Domain holders or registrants should have received notice from HKDNR with regards to the amendment of rules of the domain registration agreement. Yet HKDNR failed to highlight the changes. For your ready reference, I have compiled a table displayed point by point to show the major difference. Please click to the link http://www.mastermate.com.hk/archive/hkdnr.htm for details. Words displayed in Red are the major amendments. New things include introduction of domain .idv.hk and that any HK resident apart from being a commercial or social entity or educational institutions or government bodies is now qualified to register a domain name. However please be reminded that for idv.hk, the possession right will be forfeited upon receipt of notice of death of the registrant by HKDNR (clause 21 f). However, HKDNR replied that the domain name ownership is transferable. Therefore for those registrants of idv.hk who might want to maintain the domain name perpetually, they are advised to take appropriate actions in due course. Displayed hereunder is the extract of HKDNR's reply -
According to our Regisration
Agreement V.2.0, HKDNR are entitled to remove an .idv.hk domain name on
the day that HKDNR has notice of the death of the customer.
Since, all domain names under
HKDNR Agreement V.2.0 are transferable. Therefore, you may consider to
transfer your concern domain name to a third party. For details, please
refer to our Registration Agreement V.2.0 clause 20.
Also there are some wording changes to provide greater protection for HKDNR and you might want to take a look.

Subject: Capitalism Got an article talking about capitalism which is quite amusing. Do you agree their definition? Anyway, don't take it serious. TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull. Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows. You sell them and retire on the income. ENRON VENTURE CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows. The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company. The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. Sell one cow to buy a new president of the United States, leaving you with nine cows. No balance sheet provided with the release. The public buys your bull. AN AMERICAN CORPORATION You have two cows. You sell one, and force the other to produce the milk of four cows. You are surprised when the cow drops dead. A FRENCH CORPORATION You have two cows. You go on strike because you want three cows. A JAPANESE CORPORATION You have two cows. You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce twenty times the milk. You then create clever cow cartoon images called Cowkimon and market them World-Wide. A GERMAN CORPORATION You have two cows. You reengineer them so they live for 100 years, eat once a month, and milk themselves. A BRITISH CORPORATION You have two cows. Both are mad. AN ITALIAN CORPORATION You have two cows, but you don't know where they are. You break for lunch. You drink wine. You make love. You sleep the afternoon away. A RUSSIAN CORPORATION You have two cows. You count them and learn you have five cows. You count them again and learn you have 42 cows. You count them again and learn you have 12 cows. You stop counting cows and open another bottle of vodka. A SWISS CORPORATION You have 5000 cows, none of which belong to you. You charge others for storing them. A HINDU CORPORATION You have two cows. You worship them. A CHINESE CORPORATION You have two cows. You have 300 people milking them. You claim full employment, high bovine productivity, and arrest the newsman who reported the numbers. AN ISRAELI CORPORATION So, there are these two Jewish cows, right? They open a milk factory, an ice cream store, and then sell the movie rights. They send their calves to Harvard to become doctors. So, who needs people? A WELSH CORPORATION You have two cows. That one on the left is kinda cute.

World Cup Formula See, Brazil will be the winner!! Yea ...... Its quite interesting! Do you believe this formula? Brazil last won the world cup in 1994. Before that they won it in 1970. Add 1970 and 1994, it equals 3964. Argentina last won the world cup in 1986. Before that they won it in 1978. Add 1978 and 1986, it equals 3964. Germany last won in 1990. Before that they won in 1974. Add 1990 and 1974, it equals 3964. So going by this logic, the winner of the 2002 world cup is the same as the 3964 - 2002 = 1962 world cup. The 1962 world cup was won by Brazil.

Do something in the address book to avoid virus
Thanks Vivian who relayed the following suggestion to us. BUT WE ARE NOT PERFECTLY SURE IF THIS CAN AVOID SENDING OUT UNWANTED MESSAGE TOTALLY. VIRUS MAKERS CAN WRITE SCRIPT TO ACCESS EMAIL ADDRESS BOOK BY RANDOM INSTEAD OF BY SEQUENCE. ANYWAY, WORTH TO TAKE A LOOK FOR THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTION. Trick your address book! For those who are unaware, many computer viruses spread themselves by sending themselves to everyone in your address book. Well, if you want to avoid this sort of thing, here's a great tip: This tip won't prevent you from getting any viruses but it will stop those viruses from latching onto your address book and sending itself out to others. To catch an email computer viruses, create a contact in your email address book with the name : 0000 with no email address in the details. This contact will then show up as your first contact. If a virus attempts to do a "send all" on your contact list, your pc will put up an error message saying that: "The Message could not be sent. One or more recipients do not have an e-mail address. Please check your Address Book and make sure all the recipients have a valid e-mail address." You click on OK and the offending (virus) message would not have been sent to anyone. Of course no changes have been made to your original contacts list. The offending (virus) message may then be automatically stored in your "Drafts" or "Outbox" folder. Go in there and delete the offending message. Problem is solved and virus is not spread. Try this and pass on to your email contacts. The more people that use this technique, the less vulnerable we will be to viruses that spread in this manner!

Wash the top with running water and soap when you take canned soft
drink or beverage
A stock clerk was sent to clean up a storeroom in Maui, Hawaii. When he got back, he was complaining that the storeroom was really filthy and that he had noticed dried mouse or rat droppings in some areas. A couple of days later, he started to feel like he was coming down with a stomach flu, complained of sore joints and headaches, and began to vomit. He went to bed and never really got up again. Within two days he was severely ill and weak. His blood sugar count was down to 66, and his face and eyeballs were yellow. He was rushed to the emergency at Pali-Momi, where he was diagnosed to be suffering from massive organ failure. He died shortly before midnight. No one would have made the connection between his job and his death, had it not been for a doctor who specifically asked if he had been in a warehouse or exposed to dried rat or mouse droppings at any time. They said there is a virus (much like the Hanta virus) that lives in dried rat and mouse droppings. Once dried, these droppings are like dust and can easily be breathed in or ingested if a person does not wear protective gear or fails to wash face and hands thoroughly. An autopsy was performed on the clerk to verify the Doctor's suspicions. This is why it is extremely important to ALWAYS carefully rinse off the tops of canned sodas or foods, and to wipe off pasta packaging, cereal boxes, and so on. Almost everything you buy in a supermarket was stored in a warehouse at one time or another, and stores themselves often have rodents. Most of us remember to wash vegetables and fruits but never think of boxes and cans. The ugly truth is, even the most modern, upper-class, super store has rats and mice. And their warehouse most assuredly does! Whenever you buy any canned soft drink, please make sure that you wash the top with running water and soap or, if that is not available, drink with a straw. The investigation of soda cans by the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta discovered that the tops of soda cans can be encrusted with dried rat's urine, which is so toxic it can be lethal. Canned drinks and other foodstuffs are stored in warehouses and containers that are usually infested with rodents, and then they get transported to retail outlets without being properly cleaned.

The Consumer Council of Hong Kong has cautioned that certain computer equipment such as inkjet printers and monitors pose potential fire hazards.
The hazards are not with fires originating within the appliances as the internal components of computer equipment are constructed in compliance with respective safety standard to prevent such fires from spreading beyond their immediate vicinity. The main concern is with fires caused by external ignition sources. SUGGEST management to re-examine whether their computer equipments installed in office are adequately ventilated; electric currents are not overloaded; lighting cigarettes are distant from the equipments (if your office is not yet a smoking free office). http://www.consumer.org.hk/p290e.htm

| 12/07/2000 | The
"ABCD" rule
An office manager complained to me that she got a very unreasonable and impatient boss. For every her progress reporting or discussion about some new plans, her boss was never patient enough to listen from her and never let her finish the presentation. She felt hurt not receiving due respect. Her boss was tough but indeed most bosses were with similar characters. Be frankly, I observed that this office manager was not very good in presentation skill. For her presentation, she always talked a lot of irrelevant subjects and unfortunately not to the point. If her boss asked her opinion, she always failed to give a definite answer but just keep on talking and explaining. Sometimes I even believe she might not know herself what she was talking about. I just remember some examination tips which might be also helpful to executives reporting to the superiors. i.e. the "ABCD" rule A - Accurate B - Brief C- Clear D - Direct (Be relevant) I believe any reporting and presentation should be brief and to the point. Elaboration of some points are only necessary if your audience do request. Suggestions should be definite instead of vague. Performance is measured by results not by tonnage of words.

Handling
difficult customer
Last Friday, an angry lady walked into a bank, approached the document collection counter and then roared "I try to use my Auto Teller Machine card outside the bank to transfer money from one of my accounts to another but fails. I don't know why???" The bank staff explained "Oh, Lady.. because you have not used your card over half year....for security reason the card functions will be temporarily suspended...It will be easy to reactivate the card to function...would you please go to any teller counter and ask the teller to serve you..." At that time the bank was full of customers and a long queue there waiting to be served. The lady roared even louder throwing out to the bank staff with a series of offensive words. The staff's face turned red but back to normal after a few seconds saying calmly "Lady, this is the document collection counter and is not supposed to do other things. You see, some customers are waiting behind you in the queue..." But the angry lady insisted the bank staff to reactivate the card for her in that counter. Without arguing further, the bank staff entertained the request and soon the case is settled. The bank staff is handling fine for this difficult customer. But I would suggest a better way to handle this case. First, the lady's request is apparently unreasonable. To serve her in the document collection counter will be unfair to other customers in the queue. But to argue with the customer is unproductive and might waste more time. Since there is customer service staff in the bank hall, it would be wise to ask one of them to help. On one hand, this will relieve the document collection counter doing the proper assigned job. On the other hand, the customer service staff can please the angry customer by providing her a particular service without asking her to follow the long queue. Notes on customer service

to avoid your departing staff do something maliciously against the
computer in your office
We have a client who fired a technical staff due to his poor performance. In the office, our client had some computers installed and no passwords were set in the computers during purchase. However somehow the dismissed staff, without knowledge to the management, set up supervisor and user password in the bios of one of computers. He declined to disclose the password to the company afterwards when subsequently after his departure the management discovered they could not boot up the computer. Whilst there is method to reset the bios into factory default which deactivate any password settings, it takes some times to rectify the problem. Therefore suggest management to set supervisor password themselves to avoid any unauthorized change of the bios setting. Write down the passwords and keep physically in two places just in case you forget the password and your computer is locked.

| 11/27/2000 | Do
you really know whether you are the owner or registrant of your domain?
I Have a client who got some troubles when he wanted to change ISP. Most often, you let your ISP or web hosting company to do the domain registration job for you. An honest ISP or web hosting company will act on your behalf and register you as the owner or registrant of your domain name. But there are avoidably some dishonest guys. If the registration is in HK, case will be much simpler because a BR Cert is required for registration. Your agent cannot pirate your ownership. But this will not be the case when you register your domain as a ".com" ".net" or ".org". The registry in U.S. will not require any document from the applicant to prove your identity giving the chance to your agent to make himself the registrant. If your domain name is valuable to you, you are running a risk to pay huge money to get back the domain some times later. To ensure you hold the ownership, suggest you contact your counterpart and ask them to give you the details of registration. This should be always available from your vendor.
